Understanding (also called Receptive Language or Comprehension)
Understanding language means being able to understand the words, sentences, and messages that other people use.
This is an important skill that helps children learn to communicate. Many children need to understand words before they feel ready to use them themselves. This is why understanding language often develops before talking.
There are lots of simple ways you can help your child build their understanding, such as talking about everyday activities, playing together, reading books, and giving them time to listen and respond. As your child’s understanding grows, they will become more confident using words and communicating their own ideas.
