Expressive Communication
We all communicate in different ways to share what we want, need, think, and feel. Communication is not just about talking. Children also communicate through gestures, facial expressions, pointing, signs, sounds, eye contact, and body language.
Talking is often the area that adults notice most, but there are many important skills that develop before children start using words. We encourage you to explore the other areas of communication too, as these skills provide the foundations for talking.
Every child communicates in their own way. We encourage children to use any method that helps them connect with others and get their message across. By responding to all attempts to communicate, you can help your child build confidence and develop their communication skills.
